Our Work Experience Programme is designed to give you meaningful exposure to professional environments in the built environment, at a stage when that exposure can make the biggest difference.
These placements are not paid, long-term roles. However, no one should be excluded from work experience because they cannot afford to take part. That is a barrier we actively work to remove.
This programme is open to:
-
Sixth form students
-
University students and graduates
-
Early career professionals exploring the industry
How the Programme Works
Work experience placements are offered on an ad-hoc basis, rather than a fixed intakes. The placement itself would usually take place over the holidays.
This means:
-
Applications remain open throughout the year
-
We run two application routes:
-
One for sixth form students
-
One for university students and above
-
-
Placements are offered as and when employers our partners are available, where we believe there is a genuine and appropriate match
Being on the list means you are considered for opportunities. When we contact you, it is because an employer has committed time and resource and we believe the placement aligns with your interests and stage.
Preparation and Support
Before any placement takes place, participants attend two to three coaching and preparation sessions.
These sessions are designed to help you:
-
Understand professional expectations and workplace norms
-
Feel confident communicating in office environments
-
Know what to expect on placement and how to get the most from it
-
Ask questions and address any concerns ahead of time
We want you to walk into the placement feeling prepared, not anxious.
Financial Support
To ensure the programme is accessible, we provide a financial stipend ahead of the placement.
This is intended to cover:
-
Travel to and from the office
-
Lunch during the placement
-
Basic smart clothing, if you do not already have appropriate workwear
This support exists so that financial circumstances do not limit participation or confidence.
What We Expect From You
Work experience relies on trust, preparation, and professionalism.
We ask participants to:
-
Engage fully in the preparation sessions
-
Respond promptly to emails and communications
-
Arrive on time and prepared for the placement
-
Conduct themselves professionally and respectfully
-
Communicate clearly if circumstances change
These expectations are not about formality for its own sake. They help protect opportunities and maintain strong relationships with employers who continue to open their doors to our members.
Join List
Members who have engaged in previous events and initiatives beforehand may be prioritised in terms of selection. However, if you have already participated in our work experience programme – we will remove your name from the list, so that others have a chance.
Once you join the list, you only need to submit your details once. If you aren’t selected for a particular placement, you will be considered for the next one, so long as your interests align.
