Mentoring is built on mutual respect, safety, and trust. Clear boundaries protect that trust. They help mentors and mentees understand what’s appropriate, how to communicate well, and what to do if something feels uncomfortable.
Time and Commitment #
Consistency matters more than frequency.
-
Mentors and mentees should agree on how often they will meet and how long each meeting will last (usually an hour).
-
If something comes up, communicate early and reschedule respectfully.
-
The programme lasts for six months, and consistent contact helps build genuine progress – irregular meetings make it harder to maintain momentum.
The Land Collective team will check in occasionally to ensure both sides feel supported and engaged.
Communication #
Good mentoring relies on clear, respectful communication.
-
Choose how you’ll stay in touch (email, Teams, Zoom, etc.) and keep it professional.
-
Avoid messaging through personal or social media accounts.
-
Keep conversations focused on growth, reflection, and professional development.
Mentors are not expected to provide personal counselling or private life advice. If a mentee raises an issue that feels sensitive or beyond the mentor’s role, please contact us at in**@***************ve.com
Professional Boundaries #
Mentoring works best when there’s structure and accountability.
-
Meetings should take place in appropriate settings – online through secure platforms or in agreed, public locations if in person.
-
Mentees should not visit a mentor’s home or personal space.
-
Confidential information shared in confidence must stay private unless there’s a safeguarding concern.
Respect and Conduct #
Everyone involved in this programme represents The Land Collective’s values of integrity, respect, and inclusion.
-
Speak to one another with patience and kindness, even when opinions differ.
-
Allow space for questions without judgement.
-
Be mindful of language and tone, especially across cultures or identities.
If any conduct breaches these principles, The Land Collective may step in to review the mentoring match or end participation if necessary.
Safeguarding and Support #
If something feels uncomfortable or inappropriate, raise it immediately with the TLC team. We take all concerns seriously and will handle them sensitively and promptly. You’ll find further guidance in the Safeguarding section of this knowledge base.
